Cockroaches are small, but as compared to ticks, fleas, and termites, they are bigger in size. They also possess wings that help them to fly. Cockroaches infest homes in search of food and shelter. If you leave your food outside, they can be found around your kitchen.

In Colorado Springs, coming across cockroaches is common, just like many other pests. Having common knowledge about cockroaches is essential in order to deal with them effectively. While cockroaches are not known for harming humans, they can still spread allergies in people who are sensitive.

Furthermore, they can infect food that is outside. Food poisoning can be there as they can transmit bacteria to the food items that are outside and not contained. There are gastrointestinal disorders as well, and cockroaches can spread in humans.

As far as the younger Cockroaches are concerned, they grow when they shed their skin. The young ones are called nymphs. If a person inhales the antigens present in their feces, asthmatic reactions can occur, too.

Thus, you need to get rid of them as soon as you can. To keep your home pest free in Colorado Springs, make sure you contact a professional.

What are the different types of cockroaches and their behavior?

There are many different types of cockroaches, and we will discuss some of them below:

  • Oriental Cockroaches

These cockroaches are also called “water bugs.” They are found in the basement areas and crawl spaces around homes. They prefer living in places where they get moisture, and the weather remains cold. If they are outdoors, you might find them in bushes and mulch.

As far as their development is concerned, it is pretty slow. In order to become an adult, they need at least eighteen months. In the case of another type, it only takes 2 months to become an adult.

There are fewer egg cases here, too. Once the eggs are away from the females, the egg that is there in the egg case will take about 2 months to hatch.

  • German cockroach

The one that you are more likely to come across in your kitchen is the German cockroach. The cockroach is bronze in color and prefers to hide in crevices and small spaces. There are two strips present at the back of the older German cockroach. These cockroaches spent a lot of their lifetime remaining hidden.

Since they are so good at hiding, it makes them really good to live among humans. If these cockroaches come out from where they were hiding, they usually prefer night time as they feel much safer during that time. They do not travel much; they only like to travel as much as it will get them food.

Even the place where they are hiding is in their reach from wherever they are getting their food. Furthermore, they reproduce quickly. The female ones hold the egg close to their abdomen when they are about to hatch. In other cockroaches, it is seen that they drop their egg capsules.

  • American cockroach

These species are much larger in size and can even be two inches in length. The color is reddish brown, and the grown ones even have wings. Tunnels, basements, or wherever food is being processed, you can find them there. American cockroaches take much more time to develop into adults than German cockroaches.

There are fourteen to sixteen egg cases. It took forty-five days for all the eggs to hatch. It took fifteen months for the American cockroach to develop fully from when the egg hatched. However, if they receive good conditions, a lot of them can thrive, and you will see them in large numbers.
